volunteer requirements

General/Low-Contact Volunteers

Minimal or no direct interaction with learners; volunteer activities are typically short-term or one-time events.

Examples:

  • Event setup/cleanup

  • Donation drives

  • Administrative support (e.g., filing, copying)

 Requirements:

  • Completion of Volunteer Application

  • Review and Acknowledgement of Volunteer Handbook & Guidelines

  • Signed Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Agreement

  • Emergency Medical Care Authorization

  • TB Risk Assessment (if volunteering more than once per month or onsite for more than 8 hours per year)

Moderate-Contact Volunteers

Regular campus presence or moderate interaction with learners in supervised settings.

Examples:

  • Classroom helper (with educator present)

  • Library support

  • Supervised lunch/recess duty

  • Seminar assistant

Requirements:

  • All Level I Requirements

  • Live Scan Fingerprinting and Background Check (one-time, unless break in service >1 year)

  • TB Risk Assessment (required)

  • Orientation/Training (as applicable to role)

  • Photo ID verification

  • Raptor Volunteer Portal account for sign-in/sign-out and tracking hours

High-Contact/Unsupervised Volunteers

Frequent and/or unsupervised interaction with learners or responsible for transporting learners.

Examples:

  • Overnight field trip chaperones

  • Small group instruction or mentoring

  • Driving learners for school events (with authorization)

  • One-on-one tutoring or support

Requirements:

  • All Level I & II Requirements

  • DMV record check (if driving learners)

  • Valid driver’s license and insurance verification (if applicable)

  • Additional role-specific training (e.g., field trip procedures, mandated reporter overview)

  • Annual re-certification or refresher (recommended for continuity)
