Spanish Educator (Middle School)

 
  • San Carlos Charter (SCC), a progressive K-8 charter school located in San Carlos, is seeking a Spanish educator for our multi-age middle school classrooms.

    The SCC curriculum is based on current research about learning and the grouping of students. Our curriculum and instruction are deeply influenced by constructivist learning and multiple intelligence theories, so children are engaged in hands-on, minds-on learning every day. Our educators use multiple resources to create our curriculum. We are looking for an educator that can create curriculum and can provide innovative, engaging and high quality instruction in Spanish as a second language within a multi-age classroom environment. Spanish is a core curricular subject that is taught K – 8 at SCC. Acquiring fluency in the Spanish language is key goal that we set for all our learners.

    Successful candidates will possess demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams, both at level and within the school as a whole. Experience and understanding of the educational practices described above are a must. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and ability to work closely with volunteers (parents and community) to implement curriculum are also important in this environment. Candidates must also be open to research and development within a school setting.

  • Salary dependent upon experience

    10 months per year

    1. Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every learner can and will acquire the Spanish language

    2. Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards, Common Core, and ACTFL standards for language fluency

    3. Solicit and integrate learner choice in developing curriculum

    4. Meet the developmental and curricular needs of all learners with in a multi-age classroom

    5. Assess students regularly and analyze student results; refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and learner needs

    6. Maintain records in an appropriate and timely manner

    7. Collaborate with colleagues, families, and learners

    8. Attend LSTs, IEPS, conferences (as needed) and community events

    9. Manage learner behavior to ensure every learner is fully engaged

    10. Instruct learners in 90% immersion model of teaching Spanish through the use of TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) and Teaching with CI (Comprehensible Input)

    11. Actively participate in professional development activities around TPRS and Teaching with CI methodologies

    12. Create Thematic Units of Study incorporating several resources, including authentic language resources and technology

  • The San Carlos Charter is a K-8 school just south of San Francisco serving students of San Carlos and the Peninsula.     2. Valid California Single Subject (Spanish) Teaching Credential

    3. English Language Learner Authorization

    4. Bilingual in Spanish and English

    5. 2 years classroom teaching experience preferred

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, and walk and involves walking on even and uneven surfaces and negotiating a 6” curb. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch and/or crawl. The employee occasionally may lift or push up to 25 lbs.

    Must sit on an occasional or frequent basis. This is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist, leaning on the forearms, and looking down which requires neck flexion. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc., either occasionally or frequently, depending on the day.

    The use of office equipment including computers (mostly Macs), telephones, copiers, fax machines, etc. will be required. When working with equipment it may also be necessary to forward bend, squat, and/or kneel.

    Hearing and vision must be corrected to normal range. Involves manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
