Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

 
  • Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) will serve as a vital member of the Learner Services and Special Education team. Working under the direction of the school SLP, the primary purpose of the SLPA is to serve both identified learners with an IEP (80%) and general education learners (20%) in need of screening or limited services grades K through areas of support may include articulation, fluency, voice, language, auditory comprehension, and social cognition. This position must be comfortable with data, quantitative concepts, working as part of a team, and working independently.

  • $38.00 - $44.00/hr

    Part-time (approximately 21-23 hours per week)

    10 months per year

    1. As directed by the SLP, address learner speech production, vocal production, and language through speech therapy according to the individualized plan

    2. Support the social and cognitive development of learners

    3. Follow the goals and treatment plan developed by the SLP and provide input as requested

    4. Deliver direct and indirect services as part of pre-referral interventions, Tier 2, and Tier 3 services, whether in the SLP room, classroom, or the playground

    5. Collect and record data on all therapy sessions

    6. Perform related clerical tasks, as needed.

    7. Assist with performing screenings, as directed, under the supervision of the SLP

    8. Stay informed of the latest developments in the fields of child development and speech therapy, attend collaborative meetings with colleagues, and have a willingness to participate actively within the school community

    9. Performs other duties as assigned

    1. Licensed, or soon to be licensed, as a Speech-Pathology Assistant with the State of California

    2. Bilingualism and/or biculturalism are highly desired

    3. The ability to meet the physical, emotional, communication, and cognitive demands of the SLPA position with or independent of reasonable accommodations.

    4. Prepared to work with a wide variety of pediatric and school-aged communication disorders.

    5. Demonstration of organizational and management skills

    6. Demonstration of successful work experience with communicatively disabled learners and their families

    7. Strong communication skills both orally and in writing

    8. Ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive information.

    9. Maintain learner IEP files, attendance and pupil progress reports

    10. Ability to create and manage a flexible work schedule to provide optimum services necessary to be successful in the position

    11. Ability to be a positive and collaborative team member, with both families and colleagues

    12. Ingenuity, creativity, and out of the box thinking, balanced with the ability to reason, demonstrate solid judgment, and respond to unpredictability in scheduling, learner behavior, and unplanned needs

    13. Excellent executive function and/or successful compensatory strategies in order to meet deadlines and work standards

    14. Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to employment history and criminal background check

    15. Must provide valid TB Assessment

    16. Must provide valid CPR certificate

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, and walk and involves walking on even and uneven surfaces and negotiating a 6” curb. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch and/or crawl. The employee occasionally may lift or push up to 25 lbs.

    Must sit on an occasional or frequent basis. This is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist, leaning on the forearms, and looking down which requires neck flexion. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc., either occasionally or frequently, depending on the day.

    The use of office equipment including computers (mostly Macs), telephones, copiers, fax machines, etc. will be required. When working with equipment it may also be necessary to forward bend, squat, and/or kneel.

    Hearing and vision must be corrected to normal range. Involves manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
