All School Clean Up

When: Saturday, August 13th from 9am-4pm

Dear SCC Families,

It’s hard to believe it is August and officially time to prepare for SCC to go back to school. For those new to our community, you may be asking yourself “What is campus clean-up day?” For the last few years we have not had the opportunity to gather together, for this day, so we have put below hopefully ALL the information you need.

Campus Clean Up is one day for us all to gather together and prepare the school for the new year. Yet it is more than that - it is a day of community. This is truly what Charter does best! Time to serve next to each other, help, laugh, play and be in community.

So whether you have 15 minutes to spare, or the whole day, please bring your entire family to come help on Saturday, Aug 13!

Additionally, we will have Meghan Scott (RN) on campus from 11am-2pm administering TB assessments. ALL volunteers for the 2022-2023 will need a TB risk assessment. It is a very quick, 2-3 minute oral risk assessment and needs to be completed every four years. Meghan will also have the binder with all the recent assessments on-site. We will have a few other times at the start of the year to complete this assessment which will be a requirement for volunteering - so best to get it done ASAP.

At any time please reach out to me with questions yet look forward to seeing and meeting many of you on the 13th!

Muchas Gracias,

Liz Sloan

SCC Volunteer Coordinator

P.S. The tree located in the blacktop near the office entrance is buzzing (literally) with bees and some wasps. We are working on having it controlled yet for anyone with allergies a head’s up.

What is Campus Clean Up Day at Charter?

Just like our learners, our campus has also been on summer vacation!  New weeds have excitedly responded to the summer sunshine, the gardens need pruning, trash has wandered in and classrooms need to be prepared for the new year. This is one day where the community comes together to make the campus sparkle for the return of our learners.

Are there specific times I can volunteer?

No! Whether you have 15 minutes or five hours we would love your help. The hours are between 9am-4pm. Please sign up *here so we know you will attend AND also so we have your volunteer hours for the next school year!

Please note we will use SignUp.com for all our school activities this year and the way we will record volunteer hours. If you do not have an account please sign up separately for each volunteer member of your household. Thank you!

What are some of the ways we will clean up?

We are in the process of pulling together our master list for 2022 yet some of the activities in the past have included: putting together school furniture, moving furniture to other classrooms, pulling weeds, cleaning the breezeway, preparing the lost/found area, fixing the chicken coop, collecting trash, power washing the stairs, etc.

It is difficult for me to help in a physical way, are there other ways I can volunteer?

Yes, while the majority of the work involves physical labor there are many ways you can help out that are not physical; including helping to staff the welcome desk!

What can I bring?

We are in need of brooms, leaf blowers, power washers and any other fun cleaning supplies you might have around your home. Please make sure to label your item. Also please plan to bring working/gardening gloves. Please bring a hat and sunscreen too!

Can I bring the entire family?

Of course, please bring siblings, grandparents and even friends. We do ask that you please keep your four-legged friends (cats and dogs) at home.

How will I know how to help?

When you arrive, you will check in and get a name badge (so we can all learn each other's names!). At that time we will have a list of items that need to be complete and places to help.

Will I need to show vaccination or wear a mask?

In the August 10th board meeting the school policies for the upcoming year will be set. We will plan to update the community with that information after that meeting.

Will my learner see their educator?

Since the campus clean-up falls on a weekend day there is no requirement for educators to be on campus. Some will be planning for the next school year and will likely let their class community know if they will be present.

Will there be access to restrooms and water?

Yes there will be access to restrooms and a place to fill up your water bottle.

Will there be food?

No food will be provided at this event so please plan to bring a snack, breakfast or lunch.
