ATTENDANCE POLICY
SCC depends on learner attendance for funding. When a learner is absent, school funding is reduced, regardless of the reason for the absence. This can harm our education program as a whole and the educational experience for other learners.
Both the California Administration Code and the Education Code state that every pupil must attend school regularly. According to California Ed Code §48260, any student who is absent from school without a valid excuse for three full days is truant. Any student who is tardy or absent for any 30-minute period during the school day, without a valid excuse on three occasions during one school year, is classified as truant.
Your child should attend school consistently and should be absent only for illness or emergencies. If it can be avoided, we highly encourage you to please not schedule extended family vacations during school time.
If your child will be absent for three (3) or more consecutive school days, please complete an Independent Study form with your child’s educator. Completing this form will ensure that your child will not fall behind while they are out of school and enables the school to receive funding for the days your child is absent. An Independent Study form can be obtained from your child’s educator or the school office.
Learners will only be released to parents, legal guardians, or persons listed on the Emergency Contact. For other arrangements, written permission must be sent to the office by the parent/guardian.
If you need help or have any questions on how to use the new attendance reporting system, you can email Miriam Peirano at mpeirano@scclc.net.
In the event you cannot access the PowerSchool Parent Portal, you can report attendance using the old form (please only use this option when you have no way of accessing the parent portal).

Regular attendance helps to ensure each learner can reach their full educational potential and shows a commitment by the family to the school and to the learner’s education. ARRIVING LATE
Learners arriving late to school miss learning time and disrupt the learning process of others. If your child arrives at school after 8:10am and the gate is closed, they should report to the office for a tardy slip before proceeding to class. Our educators aim to take attendance as early in the school day as possible. After attendance has been taken, checking in through the office is the only way to ensure your child’s status will be changed from absent to present.PICKING UP YOUR CHILD EARLY
If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please notify your child’s teacher in advance. When you arrive at school, please go to the front office. You will need to scan the QR code to sign your child out (siblings under 18 years of age will not be allowed to sign out a student).Learners will only be released to parents, legal guardians, or persons listed on the Emergency Contact. For other arrangements, written permission must be sent to the office by the parent/guardian.
