5th Grade Educator

 
  • San Carlos Charter (SCC), a progressive K-8 charter school located in San Carlos, is seeking a 1.0 FTE 5th Grade Multi-subject Educator.

    The SCC curriculum is centered on current research about learning and the grouping of students. All instruction is based on the constructivist learning theory and multiple intelligence theory, so children are engaged in hands-on, minds-on learning every day. Curriculum is created by educators and is structured around integrated thematic units. We are resource-based (no textbooks).

  • Salary dependent upon experience

    10 months per year

    1. Plan, implement, and document Language Arts curriculum in connection to Common Core State Standards and SCC curriculum cycles

    2. Plan and lead social-emotional learning curriculum

    3. Engage in constructivist teaching strategies

    4. Solicit and integrate student choice in developing curriculum

    5. Implement an authentic project for at least two thematic units each year

    6. Meet the developmental and curricular needs of a diverse group of learners

    7. Assess learners regularly using given SCC and state assessments

    8. Maintain records in an appropriate and timely manner

    9. Collaborate with colleagues, families, and learners

    10. Act as Advisor for 20 – 30 learners (This includes supporting and attending IEPs, Educator/Learner/Parent conferences, and Learning Lab supervision

    11. Chaperone week long milestone trips with grade level and be part of a team that facilitates the logistics of milestone planning and implementation annually

    1. Bachelor’s degree

    2. Two years classroom teaching experience preferred

    3. Valid California Multiple Subject teaching credential

    4. English Language Learner Authorization

    5. Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to employment history and criminal background check

    6. Must provide valid TB Assessment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, and walk and involves walking on even and uneven surfaces and negotiating a 6” curb. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, crouch and/or crawl. The employee occasionally may lift or push up to 25 lbs.

    Must sit on an occasional or frequent basis. This is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist, leaning on the forearms, and looking down which requires neck flexion. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc., either occasionally or frequently, depending on the day.

    The use of office equipment including computers (mostly Macs), telephones, copiers, fax machines, etc. will be required. When working with equipment it may also be necessary to forward bend, squat, and/or kneel.

    Hearing and vision must be corrected to normal range. Involves manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
